Solvay Pharmaceuticals Associate Director Honored as Industry Rising Star by Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association

MARIETTA, Ga. (May 8, 2008) - Sandra Wiejowski, Pharm.D, associate director of Medical Affairs for Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc., was honored today as an industry Rising Star by the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) at its 2008 Woman of the Year luncheon in New York.
HBA Rising Stars are rising professionals in various sectors of the healthcare industry, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, advertising, public relations, medical education and market research, among other fields. Nominated by HBA’s corporate members, the Rising Stars represent various career stages and disciplines, and have demonstrated noteworthy achievements and proven attention to furthering their careers.
As associate director of Medical Affairs, Wiejowski is responsible for managing the Medical Communications Department whose primary core responsibilities include the development of scientifically accurate responses to health care professional medical questions and the medical review and approval of advertising and promotional materials.
Wiejowski joined Solvay Pharmaceuticals in 2003 as the assistant director of the gastroenterology medical liaison team and in 2005 assumed her current role as the leader of the Medical Communications department. Since that time, she received the company’s Summit Award, the highest individual honor for consistent contributions to the company, and was selected to participate in the company’s leadership development program.

Wiejowski has more than 14 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry across numerous therapeutic areas and across diverse functional divisions. This includes prior work as associate director/publications manager for Global Clinical Development & Medical Affairs at Novartis Pharmaceuticals and associate director – Global Prescription Business at Pharmacia where she developed strategic global opinion leader and medical education programs.
She earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Biological Sciences and Pharmacy as well as a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. She also completed an ASHP Specialty Residency in Drug Information Practice at Roche Labs in Nutley, NJ.
