Joseph S. Barone, M.D., Named Vice President, Drug Safety and Surveillance for Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Marietta, Ga. – December 20, 2005 – Joseph S. Barone, M.D., has been named Vice President, Drug Safety and Surveillance (DSS), for Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Barone will be responsible for leading the U.S. DSS department and will oversee and direct all post-marketing adverse event collection, evaluation and reporting activities. In addition, Barone and the U.S. DSS group will work closely with the Global Drug Safety and Surveillance department in Hannover, Germany to handle all post-approval drug safety activities. He reports to Dr. Ron Robison, senior vice president, research and development and chief medical officer, and will have functional accountability to Dr. Wolfgang Wagner, head of the Global DSS function in Hannover.
With more than 20 years of pharmaceutical industry experience, Barone has worked for several pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer, Bayer, Hoffman-LaRoche and most recently Daiichi Medical Research in various positions of increasing responsibility. He has past experience in the functional areas of Drug Safety, Clinical Development and Medical Affairs and has worked with investigational and marketed products across many different therapeutic areas.
Barone received his M.D. degree from Cornell University Medical College and pursued training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. He holds a current medical license and is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
