Solvay Pharmaceuticals and CF Services Introduce Nutritional Program for Infants with Cystic Fibrosis
MARIETTA, Ga., Oct. 4, 2002 - Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and CF Services, Inc., a subsidiary of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, this week unveiled a program to provide nutritional support to infants diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF). Called "Wee Care™," the program was announced at the 16th Annual North America Cystic Fibrosis Conference in New Orleans, La.
Infants grow at a miraculous rate, but that growth can be hindered by poor digestion associated with CF. Through the Wee Care program, children under the age of 2 diagnosed with CF are eligible to receive a free supply of CREON® MINIMICROSPHERES® (pancrelipase delayed-release capsules, USP) and VITAMAX™ Pediatric Drops, a multiple vitamin source specially formulated to meet the extra vitamin needs of children with CF. CREON® MINIMICROSPHERES® may significantly improve fat absorption in children with CF. Oral enzymes help in the digestion of food and absorption of fats.
CF Services, Inc. (www.cfservicespharmacy.com), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, was established in 1988 as a specialty pharmacy in response to CF patients' needs for low-cost medications. Today, CF Services continues this mission and provides patient advocacy, patient education, caregiver support, reimbursement support and quality pharmacy services.
As part of Solvay Pharmaceuticals' Partners in CaringSM program, the Wee Care™ program furthers the company's commitment to support individuals with CF and their families. Other Partners in CaringSM programs provide CF educational materials, nutritional supplements and support for patients and families affected by CF as well as to care providers at CF treatment centers across the United States. In addition, Partners in CaringSM has awarded $1.2 million in scholarships to students with CF over the past 10 years. Solvay Pharmaceuticals markets the pancreatic enzyme supplement CREON® MINIMICROSPHERES® Capsules.
