Harold Shlevin, CEO of Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Named to PhRMA Board of Directors
Marietta, Ga. (April 23, 2003) - Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announces that Harold Shlevin, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer, has been named to the board of directors of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). Shlevin will serve a three year term from April 2003 to April 2006.

As president and chief executive officer of Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Shlevin focuses on strategically expanding the company's presence in the United States through aggressive acquisitions and research and development. Shlevin joined Solvay Pharmaceuticals as senior vice president of business development and scientific affairs in 1998 and became president and chief executive officer on June 1, 2000. He has three decades of diverse healthcare business-related experience, involving every aspect of the pharmaceutical industry from research and development to commercial operations. His past industry experience includes leadership roles at G.D. Searle and Co., Ciba-Geigy and Ciba Vision.
After earning a bachelor's degree from Boston University, Shlevin earned a master's and doctorate from Rochester Medical School. He holds post-doctoral degrees in pharmacology and physiology from the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. Shlevin serves on the board of directors of the National Pharmaceutical Council and of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the board of advisors of Atlanta's Morehouse School of Medicine.
